Goose Creek Homes for Sale

Area Description

Goose Creek traces its long history to plantations on the Cooper River but hit its growth spurt in the 1960s as a bedroom community and home of the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. Situated on the southern edge of Berkeley County next to Hanahan and North Charleston, the region incorporated as a city in 1961. A big boost in size and prestige was Westvaco development’s layout of Crowfield Plantation, which skirts through the center of the 35,000 population city. A 1969 survey ranked Goose Creek homes the fastest growing community in the U.S. The tree-lined working class city sits in a central location for growth, notably just south of master planned communities Carnes Crossroads and Cane Bay Plantation. One theory for the name is the gooseneck shape of the waterway that nips the city’s southern edge.
